Fabius urges forming inclusive gov't in Iraq

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius on Sunday urged the Iraqi political leaders to speed up the formation of an inclusive government.

France is eager to see an Iraqi government that could represent the broad political spectrum truly and meet the demands of all people, he said at a joint press conference with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Foreign Minister Hussain Al-Shahristani after their talks.

Fabius noted that his visit to Iraq aims to explore the possibility of delivering humanitarian assistance to the minorities who bear the brunt of the unrest in north Iraq, particularly in Singar city in Iraq's northwestern governorate of Nineveh.

He added that he aims to deliver a message of solidarity and support from the French government to Iraq in its war against terrorism.

Iraq is facing a security crisis that requires urgent aid from the international community, he said, noting that he brought tons of medical and humanitarian assistance to the displaced people in north Iraq.

On his part, Al-Shahristani apologized for being unable to respond to the questions of reporters, saying that his guest has to proceed to Nineveh to meet the internally-displaced people there.

Al-Shahristani's office said in a statement that the talks between the two ministers dealt with cooperation between the two countries and the French initiative for helping Iraq in the war against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
