(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Football Association (QFA) and Qatar Stars League (QSL) are collaborating this year by organising a football fans area that features countless activities to celebrate the kick-off of the new season 2014-2015.
The football fans area located in Landmark Mall and Villaggio Mall were thrown open for fans from yesterday and will remain open till August 22.
The mall activations will be a 10m x 10m area that features different activities organised by QFA and QSL. QFA will be providing interactive games from L'Batak fanzone which is part of the broader Koora Time initiative announced by the QFA and Qatar Shell last year, is designed to promote greater physical activity amongst the youth.
QSL will provide the QSL experience which will allow fans to play on the inflatable games as well as football-related interactive games. A stand is also allocated in the fans area to give the fans information about all 18 local clubs.
The season-opening football tournament Sheikh Jassim Cup will feature a strong match between the Emir Cup winners Al Sadd and QSL champions Lekhwiya.
The match will kick-off on August 13 at 7:00pm and will be played at Lekhwiya Stadium where the ticket proceeds will be donated to the victims of Gaza through ROTA.
It is noteworthy to mention that Sheikh Jassim Cup is one of the oldest tournaments organised by QFA.
The first edition was launched in 1977 and featured 18 first and second division clubs.
Following the Sheikh Jassim Cup, QSL will begin on August 21, where 14 teams will compete to win the sought-after title.
