Prime Minister Sharif is willing to discuss PTI demands

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Sharif said that the federal government was ready to discuss Imrans demands without any reservations adding that he would even go to the PTI chiefs house if invited.Claiming that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf chief Imran Khan had told Jamaat-e-Islami leader Sirajul Haq he was willing to call off August 14 long march call if recounting was done on 10 seats in last year’s polls Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said he would be open to discuss this and any other reasonable demand with Imran Khan.

Addressing an all-party conference on national security here Sharif however ruled out talks with “rabble rousers” like Pakistan Awami Tehreek Allama Tahirul Qadri saying nobody would be allowed to derail democracy in the country for personal agenda.

Sharif’s claim was however refuted by PTI information secretary Shireen Mazari saying that Khan did not make any such offer.

The JI chief has been meeting both the prime minister and Imran Khan during past few days to defuse the crisis created by Khan’s call for a million-man ‘Azadi’ (freedom) march on country’s Independence Day on Islamabad to press for PTI’s demands for electoral reforms. Qadri is calling for the ouster of Nawaz Sharif.

Army chief General Raheel Sharif and heads of intelligence agencies also attended the all-party conference held against the back drop of Imran’s plans and the ongoing military operation against Taleban militants in North Waziristan.

The prime minister said that the federal government was ready to discuss Imran’s demands without any reservations adding that he would even go to the PTI chief’s house if invited.

However he was less tolerant of another protest taking place — that of Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s (PAT) in Lahore.

Implicitly referring to Dr Tahirul Qadri’s call for a revolution Nawaz declared that bringing about a revolution in order to create chaos will not be tolerated.

He also said that no one would be allowed to harm democracy or the supremacy of the constitution.

Sharif remarked that he does not understand why the Azadi March and “revolution rally” are being held just a year after the government came into power stating that it would have made more sense if the marches took place during the end of the government’s tenure.

The meeting was meant to be attended by all political parties and all four chief ministers.

However the PTI and its chief minister Pervez Khattak did not show up.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan were also absent in view of Sunday’s ‘martyrs day’ call by Dr Qadri in Lahore.
