Clean chit to Modi in poll code violation case

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Gujarat Police have once again given a clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi this time in a case of alleged violation of model code of conduct during the Lok Sabha election this year.In its 2000-page closure report submitted by before metropolitan magistrate M H Patel the crime branch said that no case was made out against the former Gujarat chief minister.

Crime branch head Hiimanshu Shukla had earlier also cleared Modi in cases related to riot-affected Zakia Zafri and Modi’s marriage affidavit filed during 2012 assembly polls.

On April 30 which was voting day in Gujarat Modi had after casting his vote taken a selfie with his cell phone with the party’s symbol (lotus) in hand and then also addressed a press conference near the polling booth in Ahmedabad.

Following a Congress complaint the Election Commission had reported the matter to the Gujarat government after which Modi and journalists present at the time were booked for violation of Section 126(1)(a) of the Representation of People Act. The state government had asked the city crime branch to register a complaint and investigate the matter. The Crime Branch which had then also questioned news channels and their representatives for live coverage of the event and Modi’s speech in its report has now said that neither Modi nor other Bharatiya Janata Party leaders had invited media for interaction near the polling booth where the leader cast his vote.

Aam Aadmi Party member Nishant Varma has also moved court with the claim that the FIR registered in the case was incomplete. For more news from Khaleej Times follow us on Facebook at facebook.com/khaleejtimes and on Twitter at khaleejtimes Follow khaleejtimes ->
