DBMSC were crowned double champions at this year’s edition of the Sprite Insportz Club Ramadan Cricket League 2014 according to a Press release.Both the Premier and B team of DBMSC were a much focused unit and made their intentions clear from the start of the League. Coincidentally this is also the first time that DBMSC won the Premier Division title which made this win all the more sweeter.
Batting First DBMSC scored a steady 56 runs against a strong Knight Riders bowling unit. The score seemed modest however it was expected to be a competitive one given the batting and bowling prowess of both teams. Knight Riders had a disastrous start to the chase ending their first skin on -13 runs which in return made it hard for a comeback even though the rest of the pairs put on 44 runs in the skins that followed.
Needing to defend 27 runs in the last skin DBMSC bowled skillfully and fielded like a pack of wolves attacking its prey. Knight Riders could only manage 1 run in that slot and lost the game with an overall score of 18 runs. Adnan of DBMSC was the player of the Final for his efforts in securing the game for DBMSC
Danube won the plate finals of the Premier Division meanwhile Ruwan and Rumesh brought in further honors to Danube as they were adjudged best Batsman and Bowler of the tournament in the Premier Division. Kashif of DBMSC was the obvious player of the Series scoring 60 runs and taking 7 wickets overall.
In the B Division Finals Blue Bell Shipping scored 80 runs thanks to a good batting effort by Arun who top scored with 23 runs. Sky Bridge Freight Solutions were unable to capitalize after a very good start provided by Faizan and Hamza as the rest of their batting pairs seemingly lost the plot in a demanding chase. Sky Bridge ended their 16 over innings on a score of 20 runs.
Danish and Omer from Sky Bridge Freight Solutions was the best Batsman and Bowler of the B Division as Arun from Blue Bell Shipping was the Player of the Final and Series.
DBMSC B was given a target of 26 by BAFCO in their C Division Final. By the end of the third skin DBMSC needed only 6 runs for victory. The last pair batted brilliantly to notch up 40 runs and win the game with an end of innings score of 60.
The D Division Final was the pick of the night with very close encounter between Modi Sarkar and Amazing Grace. Batting first Modi Sarkar made 74 runs thanks to a consistent all round batting performance. Amazing Grace came in to the finals as firm favorites and it seemed so with the first three pairs doing well to get them to 68 runs at the end of the third skin. Needing just six runs to win it all the last pair only had to play risk free. Modi Sarkar’s 8 had other ideas and inflicted serious damage to the scoring of Shameer and Sunil restricting them to -8 and winning the game by 10 runs after Amazing Grace were halted to 64 runs. The victors stood ecstatic as the losers were stunned in shock.
Chief Guest Sharat Mohanchandran Brand Manager Flavours – The Coca-Cola Company UAE stated that the event was a great success with over 65 teams participating this year. He further congratulated the winners and welcomed them to the next round of the Sprite Cricket Stars League.
