Father of 5 suffers stroke unable to pay bills


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) He was admitted in the hospital for over 20 days and the bill came to about Dh20000.Fifty-two-year old Pakistani national and Dubai resident Mohammed Sharifuddin had no reason to celebrate Eid Al Fitr this year. Sharifuddin an electrical engineer by profession was working on a project when he suffered a stroke.

“The client refused to pay his dues for the project and there were some additional ongoing financial troubles that were putting me under a lot of stress” said Sharifuddin.

The father of five small children who are in Pakistan and for whom he is the sole provider said: “The doctors have recommended an immediate angioplasty but unfortunately I do not even have the money to buy a day’s meal” said Sharifuddin. He was admitted to Rashid Hospital Dubai on May 27 after he suffered the stroke.

“I got severe chest pain blurry vision and a headache after which I don’t remember anything” he said. Doctors diagnosed Sharifuddin with non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) and have recommended that he undergo a coronary angioplasty immediately (CAG).

He was admitted in the hospital for over 20 days and the bill came to about Dh20000. With mounting hospital bills Sharifuddin had to file a request to be discharged from the hospital as well.

“I have a lot of difficulty in financially supporting myself. On most days I don’t have even Dh10 in my pocket there is no way I can complete my treatment this way” he said.

Sharifuddin arrived in Dubai about four years ago.

“Two of my valves are blocked and operating costs are expected to be between Dh30000 and 40000 in a government hospital here in Dubai” he added.
