Arab League urges nations, funds to aid Gaza rebuilding efforts

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Arab League called on Arab and world nations and funds for immediate support of rebuilding efforts in the Gaza Strip, which received large-scale destruction at the hands of Israel during heavy air bombardment.

"Initial reports revealing the scale of destruction caused by the Israeli aggression reflect a terrible disaster that is a disgrace to humanity and reveal the decadence of this aggression," Arab League Secretary General Nabil Al-Araby said in a statement.

Despite this, he said that "the aggressor has not managed to break the will of the Palestinian people in their resistance and opposition.

"They (Israel) deliberately killed innocent Palestinians, including children and women, injured thousands and destroyed infrastructure in the (Gaza) Strip, like electricity and water utilities, hospitals, schools, prayer halls.

He added that, "they deliberately starved out and made thirsty the besieged Palestinian people in Gaza, preventing them from gaining their basic rights in order to thwart any aspirations they might have had in their resistance of occupation." The Arab League chief stressed that the whole responsibility for the destruction lays on Israel - the occupying and besieging nation of this territory.

Rebuilding efforts and humanitarian relief for Gaza were discussed between the Arab League chief and his UN counterpart, Ban Ki-moon, whereby both had seen eye-to-eye on the need for haste regarding holding a donors' conference on the task, he added.

Furthermore, the Arab League is currently coordinating relief efforts from Arab states in this regard.
