UAE- Driver injured as heavy truck turns turtle in Umm Al Quwain


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Asian heavy truck driver sustained injuries and fractures after the truck he was driving turned turtle in Muhazab area in Umm Al Quwain.A senior police official said the accident took place at 4pm.

Major Mohammed Obaid Al Muhairi Acting Chief of Salma police station said the accident took place due to speeding. “The speeding driver who was coming from the direction of Shaikh Mohammed Bin Zayed road lost control over the car while entering the exit leading to UAQ.”

The Mercedes heavy truck he was driving overturned causing damages to the iron road barrier a lamp post and parts of the road.

Major Muhairi said police patrols and paramedics rushed to the site who rescued the driver stuck inside the cabin. “The man sustained several injuries and fractures and was shifted to the Shaikh Khalifa Hospital.”

Major Muhairi urged motorists to observe speed limits be attentive on the road and comply with the set traffic rules particularly at exits curves and U-turns for road users’ safety.

Traffic awareness campaign 
launched

Meanwhile the Traffic department of the UAQ Police started its third unified campaign to develop traffic awareness of motorists.

Lt-Col Saeed Obaid bin Aran Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department of the UAQ Police Directorate General said the three-month drive is aimed at boosting traffic safety and curbing accidents.

“Traffic patrols will be intensified across all roads of the emirate not only to clump down infractions but also to involve everyone in the campaign.”
