Kuwait- Cabinet reviews measures to maintain rule of law


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) During its weekly meeting on Monday, the cabinet reviewed the efforts of the Ministry of Interior to combat all manifestations of lawlessness and maintain the rule of law.
The meeting, presided over by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah at Al-Saif Palace, heard a report by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on the measures adopted by his ministry to preserve stability and security across the country.
"The security personnel spare no effort in maintaining the fundamental principles of the country notably the national unity and citizenship," Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and acting Minister of Justice Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Sabah quoted Sheikh Khaled as saying during the meeting.
"Through its the specialized teams, the Ministry of Interior strives resolutely to apply the rule of law on everybody in order to achieve the desired national objectives," Sheikh Khaled affirmed.
At the beginning of the meeting, the cabinet members congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as well as the Kuwaiti people and the entire Muslim nation on the holy occasion of Eid Al-Fitr.
Regarding the 24th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, the cabinet recalled the ordeal undergone by the Kuwaiti people and the loss of hundreds of lives and MIAs.
"The cabinet members paid tribute to the martyrs from the sons of Kuwait and nationals of other sisterly countries who sacrifices themselves for the sake of Kuwait liberation," Sheikh Mohammad told reporters.
They called on the Kuwaiti people to remind the suffering due to injustice and tyranny and learn lessons from that experience while working for a bright future and stronger national unity.
They were briefed on a message from Tunisian President Moncef Marzouqi to His Highness the Amir which deals with ways to promote the relations between the two sisterly countries, Sheikh Mohammad revealed.

They were also apprised on a message to His Highness the Amir from UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon who commended Kuwait's contributions to the relief efforts for the displaced people in Syria and Iraq and other parts of the world.

The cabinet was briefed by Minister of Social Affairs and Labour Hind Al-Sabeeh on the Ministry's steps to correct the path of some public benefit societies that had violated the law and the relevant basic rules as well as the purposes they were licensed to achieve. The Ministry also aimed at remedying some dysfunctions that overshadowed the activities of these societies, so that they could commit to the law.

Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Sheikh Salman Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, addressed the cabinet on the measures taken by the Ministry to apply the law on violations that offended the elevated message of the media. The Ministry sought to enhance responsible freedom that implies the real positive role of the mass media and maintains national unity and stability.

In the same context, the cabinet reviewed some of the phrases and expressions circulated through social media, that harm "our religious and social constants, constituting offence to our Islamic faith and national constants." In addition, the cabinet stressed determination to carry on with the measures likely to consolidate security and stability in the country, to protect it against seditions, chaos and lawlessness, urging the citizens to cooperate positively to preserve the nation.

Also in today's weekly meeting, the cabinet approved a draft bill on the development plan 2015/2016- 2019/2020, that paves the way for the Kuwaiti private sector to play due leading role in development.

The goals, general policies and quantitative targets in the various fields of development have been defined in the plan through cooperation between the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development in and the relevant authorities and civil society organisations.

The plan is based on two major courses, that cover a host of basic orientations in fields of human, economic, social and administrative development, besides statistics and information.

The first path focuses on serious confrontation of challenges and the current imbalances of development, while the second backs the efforts seeking to achieve the state comprehensive view for the future.

The plan will be submitted to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, to be later referred to the Parliament.

The meeting also reviewed the political scene in light of reports on the overall political developments, on both Arab and international levels.
