Microsoft sues Samsung on contract breaching

(MENAFN) Microsoft Corp has sued rival Samsung, accusing the latter of breaching a contract over licensing of technology used in the smartphone maker, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

The complaint, which was filed in federal court in New York, claims that the South Korean giant is hesitating at making payments for patented Microsoft technology used in smartphones and tablets.

Microsoft says the South Korean consumer electronics giant is not complying with a contract from 2011, and said it filed the court action after months of "painstaking negotiation."

"After becoming the leading player in the worldwide smartphone market, Samsung decided late last year to stop complying with its agreement with Microsoft," the US technology firm's deputy counsel said.
