S.Korean Carmakers Sales Up 10.9

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Oul August 02 (QNA) - Car sales by South Korean automakers rose last month from a year earlier helped by harmonious labor relations and consumer demand for brand new cars. Industrial data showed that combined sales of five local car manufacturers reached 714974 vehicles in July up 10.9 percent from 644435 vehicles sold a year ago. The total excludes complete knockdown (CKD) kits shipped abroad for assembly. Carmakers said not having labor strife including workers boycotting overtime work helped output numbers when compared to last year when several companies experienced labor-management issues according to South Korean news agency (Yonhap). They said the release of new car models also bolstered demand for vehicles made by the five original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) last month propping up sales both at home and in overseas markets. In the one-month period domestic sales rose 1.9 percent on-year from 124963 to 127319 while overseas sales jumped 13.1 percent from 519472 to 587655. (QNA)
