(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Ficial warns against the consequences of leaving children unattended in vehicles which exposes them to potential risks of suffocation. The Capital Police Directorate has called upon parents to not leave their children with bad companions or unattended in parked vehicles. They were also urged to provide the proper care for the children and to watch them for their safety.

Colonel Dr Rashid Mohammad Borshid Acting Director of the Capital Police Directorate warned against the consequences of leaving children unattended in vehicles which exposes them to potential risks of suffocation. Col Dr. Borshid urged parents to abide by the public safety requirements with regards to protecting children. He also advised them not to leave children with nannies without supervision.

Col Dr Borshid stressed the importance of educating citizens and residents about these risks. “Most of the accidents have been a result of the miscalculated and unintended negligence of the child’s parents or attendants. This negligence has led to children suffocating inside the car because the heat produces carbon dioxide gas in the car and toxic gases are additionally emitted from the seats” said Colonel Dr. Borshid.

Moreover he noted there have been some cases where children have locked themselves inside the car. “When parents let their children play with the keys of the vehicle they could end up locking it from the inside using the remote control. This is especially prevalent with new modern cars” he indicated.

Colonel Dr Borshid pointed out that children become anxious when trapped in a locked car. He requested parents to immediately call the Central Operations Room on 999 to seek help. Col Dr Borshid noted that the directorate is carrying out outreach programmes through its many police stations.
