(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) W Delhi July 30 (QNA) - India will identify Special Products at the end of Doha Round of World Trade Organisation (WTO) talks India's minister of state from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry told the Upper House of the Parliament Wednesday according to an official Press Information Bureau (PIB) report. In a written statement to the Upper House Minister Nirmala Sitharaman mentioned "The exercise of identifying Special Products will take place on conclusion of the Doha Round." The Ministerial Mandate of the Doha Round recognizes the right of developing countries to select. For instance through self-designation a suitable number of agricultural tariff lines as Special Products (SPs) for their food security livelihood security and rural development needs. Such SPs would either undergo no import duties cuts or decreases in import duties than would be applicable to other agricultural products. "These terms will come into effect after the Doha Round ends following agreement" Sitharaman said. The Doha Round is the latest round of trade negotiations among the WTO members. It aims to achieve major reform of the international trading through introducing lower trade barriers and revised trade rules. The work programme covers around 20 areas of trade. The Round known semi-officially as the Doha Development Agenda is to improve trading prospects of developing countries. The Doha Round opened officially at the WTO's Fourth Ministerial Conference in Qatar in November 2001. (QNA)
