Nasir Aziz celebrated his recall to the UAE national team pool preparing for the 2015 World Cup with a match-winning performance. He stroked 44 and then took four for 20 from his off breaks for Alubond Tigers to emerge winners by 37 runs over Wings in the Onashi Trading Pan Global Development Ramadan Twenty20 Cup final at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket stadium in Abu Dhabi.
It was the first tournament as a captain for Adnan ul Mulk and he came out with a flying colours. The youngster has potential to shine on the big stage.
Aziz and Irfan Ahmed (33) put on 69-run for the first wicket after the Tigers elected to bat first. But it was the couple of cameo knocks from Pakistan international Hasan Raza and Zeeshan Bangesh that propelled their score at the end to a challenging 188 for five.
Raza slammed 38 not out from 15 balls highlighted by five fours and a six. Bangesh hit 30 not out of 19 that contained a couple of sixes and a four. They shared a valuable 68-run stand for the sixth wicket without being separated.
Shahzaib Hasan another Pakistan international set the stadium ablaze in the chase with a 24-ball 73 but didn’t get the support from the rest of the Wings batsmen.
Shahzaib smashed 11 fours and four sixes and dominated a 61-run opening stand with Ashfaq Ahmed (8) before wickets started to fall at regular intervals from the other end. Naveed Salem (one for 41 from four overs) broke the opening stand before Aziz struck taking four of the next five wickets to fall to a bowler including the prized wicket of Shahzaib. The tournament sponsored by Onashi Trading and Pan Global Development and conducted by the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council drew 20 teams.
