Cleansing of Kerala MLA hostel begins


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Ople living in five rooms allotted to ex-MLAs were evicted under the operation carried out by officials led by Legislature Secretary on the orders of Speaker G Karthikeyan.IN A CLEANSING operation following the arrest of the kingpin of a sex extortion racket Kerala Legislature Hostel here has started evicting all unauthorised occupants.

People living in five rooms allotted to ex-MLAs were evicted under the operation carried out by officials led by Legislature Secretary on the orders of Speaker G Karthikeyan on Saturday. Some of the former MLAs who continued to live in the hostel after losing the election vacated the rooms. Former Congress MLA Saratchandra Prasad in whose room extortion racket kingpin Jayachandran hid for five days handed over the key of his room to the hostel authorities on Friday itself.

Three other ex-MLAs vacated the rooms yesterday.

The room of former minister Pandalam Sudhakaran was locked by the officials after he said that he had no renewed his occupancy. He has demanded an inquiry into the illegal allocation of his room by the hostel officials. Meanwhile the Speaker has convened an all-party meeting on July 30 to discuss ways to prevent unuathorised use of MLA hostel by outsiders. This is not the first instance of criminals taking abode at the hostel.

There were allegations earlier that some of the accused in the case related to the murder of Marxist rebel leader T P Chandrashekharan was harboured at the hostel by some opposition legislators. Saratchandra Prasad had claimed that he had not lent his room to Jayachandran who was wanted by the police in connection with the extortion involving blackmailing of people using their sexual videos.

The blackmail came to light when two NRI businessmen told the police early in July that two women had solicited them slyly video-recorded their private meetings and later demanded Rs30 million to not to make the recordings public.

Investigators recorded the telephonic conversations between the alleged blackmailers and the complainants. They found that the blackmailers had used voice-changer software to mask their true tone. The police trapped the women into accepting the payment and arrested them.
