(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The European Union has welcomed the adoption of a roadmap to reach a comprehensive peace agreement for North Mali, the first phase of the launch of Malian international negotiations.

"We welcome the facilitating role played by Algeria, which, in close cooperation with the UN, the AU and the EU and with the support of the countries of the region, has succeeded in bringing all stakeholders in Algiers," said Michael Mann, spokesperson for EU High Representative Catherine Ashton in a statement.

The EU will accompany this process diplomatically and its hardware implementation in the longer term, including through support to Mali and the Sahel Strategy, he added.

The situation on the ground remains fragile and the EU calls on all parties to promote dialogue and to respect the cease-fire., he added.

In a separate statement, Mann welcomed the signature by all parties of the Agreement on Cessation of Hostilities in the Central African Republic on 23 July.

He hoped that this commitment is respected at all levels and quickly becomes a reality on the ground, for the benefit of people and the country's development.

The EU welcomed the strong commitment of the Central African authorities and their efforts that allowed a broad representation of the forces of the country and the parties to the conflict.
