Israel kills dozens of Palestinians in Gaza prior to truce - sources

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Medical sources in Gaza said the Israeli army killed or injured dozens of Palestinians in Gaza overnight till Saturday dawn, as a 12-hour humanitarian truce started at 0500 GMT, to allow civilians to seek aid and evacuate to safer areas of the region, after almost 1,000 Palestinian people were killed and about 5,000 injured over 19 days of aggression on the Strip.

Medical sources in Gaza accused the Israeli troops of committing "a massacre" that took the lives of 20 people from one family, many of them children and women, after their four-storey house was targeted with an air strike in eastern Khan Younis.

This coincided with an Israeli air strike that targeted another house in central Gaza where young Abdullah Al-Rumili was killed and 12 other members of the family wounded. Many others were also reportedly injured in a similar raid in the same area.

Meanwhile, the Gaza Health Ministry said that a medic, called Mohammed Al-Abadla, 32, was killed as the Israeli troops targeted medical teams in Khuzaa, east of Khan Younis.

Two more Palestinians, Eslam Al-Nadi and Mohammed Al-Saka, 19 and 21 respectively, were also killed when an Israeli air raid targeted a group of people north of Gaza. A third was killed when an Israeli rocket targeted his car in central Gaza.

At dawn today, a short time before a humanitarian truce started, a series of Israeli air strikes injured dozens of Palestinians in Beit Hanoun, Gabalia, Nuseirat, Al-Buraij and Khan Yunis. Even seconds before the truce took effect, many parts of the Strip were pounded by heavy artillery shelling that left many injured.

Just as the humanitarian truce between Israel and Hamas took hold on the 19th day of the aggression on Gaza, tens of thousands of Palestinians in the Strip poured into the streets today to recover their dead and store food supplies. Sources at the Gaza Health Ministry said that medical teams soon spread all over the Strip to recover dead bodies and potential survivors under rubble after Israeli air strikes targeted their houses.

They added that up to 100 corpses that had already decomposed under the rubble, were recovered. In Beith Hanoun, northern Gaza, 33 bodies have also been recovered.

Thousands of Palestinians who rushed to their districts once the truce took hold, were shocked by the huge amount of devastation and destruction that hit their houses and areas, local radio reports said. Then many of them returned to about 90 UNRWA schools for shelter.
