Rescuers recover 132 bodies from wreckage in Gaza amid fragile truce

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Rescuers from the civil defense corps in Gaza Strip stepped up their efforts soon after a 12-hour humanitarian ceasefire entered into force at 8:00 am. on Saturday.

They managed to rescue five wounded people who were trapped under debris of their homes and recovered up to 132 bodies who were killed in earlier air and ground attacks by the Israeli army, according to medical sources.

"The bodies, recovered in the cities of Gaza, Rafah and Khan Yunis, and other parts of the Strip, took to 1,032 the death toll of the Israeli aggression," Spokesman of the Ministry of Health in Gaza Dr. Ashraf Al-Qodrah told reporters this evening.

"Besides, some 6,000 people were wounded people in the Israeli attacks going on for the third week," he added.

Meanwhile, Israeli Radio reported that the Israeli cabinet approved to extend the humanitarian ceasefire for 24 hours.

The decision was made during a cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, two hours ahead of the brief truce.

It came in response to the call jointly made by the foreign ministers of France, US, Britain, Germany, Italy, Qatar and Turkey earlier today in Paris, the radio noted.

However, an Israeli soldier shot dead a Palestinian man in Deir Al-Balah town, central Gaza Strip, this midnight one hour after the announcement of the extension of ceasefire.

The man was identified by Palestinian medics as Na'im Abu-Zhaher in his 30s.

In another apparent breach of the truce the Israeli artillery pounded the eastern outskirts of Rafah City, to the south of the Strip.

Israeli warplanes flew at low altitude over Gaza Strip.

On its part, Ezz-Eddin Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas Movement, claimed responsibility for firing more missiles into Israeli towns tonight.

Five Grad missiles were fired into Ashkelon and two M-75 rockets were launched into Tel Aviv where alert sirens sounded; the report was confirmed by Israel Radio.

Nahal Oz town was hit by five 107 missiles and two Qassam missiles, the group added.

Another missile of 107 type targeted an Israeli military camp to the east of Beit Hanon town.
