KWB launches a social media competition to document reading during travel

(MENAFNEditorial) The Organizing Committee of 'Knowledge Without Borders' (KWB) has announced the launch of a new competition on its pages and accounts on various Social Media channels. The competition aims at documenting reading habits during travel, and encouraging people to immerse themselves in reading during the summer vacation.

The new competition comes in line with the summer campaign launched by KWB, which in turn forms an integral part of the ongoing cultural initiatives organised by KWB. Participation is open to anyone, and all that is required is a picture of the participating person reading a book on a plane or near a well-known monument or landmark in the country where they are spending their vacation. The picture should be posted on Twitter and Instagram (@kwbshj) with hashtag #MySummerMyBook before September 1st, 2014. KWB will select five winners by random draw, and winners will be awarded valuable gifts.

Commenting on the competition, Rashid Al Kous, General Manager of Knowledge without Borders, said: "Books form an essential part of people's vacation plans, whether they choose to spend it in the UAE or travel abroad. Books are not only entertaining, but also informative and elevating to readers of all age groups. Our competition – targeting all UAE residents – aims at encouraging visitors of our social media pages to document their reading habits in pictures shared with friends, fellow avid readers, and our social fans."

"We invite everyone to participate in this competition, and take part in spreading the culture of reading. We believe that this competition will highlight the connection between Sharjah and books, and encourage more people to take up reading as a favourite leisure time activity," added Al Kous, pointing out that turning reading into a social activity is guaranteed to increase its affinity among people, and engage readers in rich and rewarding discussions and idea-sharing activities.

The Knowledge without Borders project was launched under the auspices of HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and with the close follow up of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Organising Committee of Knowledge without Borders project. The move aims to spread community awareness about the importance of reading and general knowledge, and to establish a library in every house containing a valuable collection of books that address different topics, after studying the cultural needs of each family.
