Microsoft profits dip on Nokia acquisition

(MENAFN) Microsoft Corp's profits got a slump from its freshly acquired Nokia phone division, while revenue was lifted strongly from cloud services, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

The US tech giant's net profit in the second quarter dipped 7 percent to USD4.6 billion over a year ago, while revenue grew by 17.5 percent, lifted by the cloud services.

Microsoft's Chief Executive said the results suggested that Microsoft's shift to services amid declining personal computer sales was starting to pay off.

In the latest earnings, Microsoft said revenues from its Windows division rose 3 percent, in a sign of some stabilization in the PC market and upgrades to devices with the newer operating systems.
