US sends consoles families of MH17 tragedy, observes int'l investigation

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The US extended its deepest condolences to the families of the downed Malaysian Airline Flight MH17 while remained critical of Russia as the investigation continues on Wednesday.

"Today we join King Willem-Alexander, Prime Minister Rutte and all of the people of the Netherlands in mourning the loss of the 193 Dutch residents," State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf told reporters in reference to the number of Dutch passengers who have lost their lives while onboard the ill-fated Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17.

The US has remained critical of the information Russia has put out on the downing of the passenger plane along with today's incident of two Ukrainian fighter jets that were shot down.

Harf stressed, "Who put their finger on the trigger, we still need to find that out." In terms of the investigation, the black boxes or recording devices obtained from flight MH17 are now in the UK.

"The reason for doing so is that the British have a specific kind of aircraft forensics laboratory needed, and the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch is a highly respected and capable investigation authority," Harf affirmed.

Around 100 casualties are still missing from the crash to which Harf asserted, "Obviously it is critical that international investigators, led by the Dutch, receive immediate and full access to the crash site." The US is also involved in the investigation because it is where the plane was manufactured.

"Today we understand that they do have better access than they've had in the past days," Harf confirmed. "We are, though, troubled by reports of looting, evidence tampering and the failure to transport".
