Newly promoted Fujairah have signed veteran midfielder Subait Khater from Al Jazira. Khater who is second on the list behind Adnan Al Talyani as the most capped UAE player with 120 appearances for the National team has put pen to paper to a one-year deal.

His contract with Al Jazira was until the 2013-14 season and Fujairah decided to make a move for the experienced midfielder. Fujairah were in the race with three other clubs for Khater’s signature.

Khater made 34 appearances for Al Jazira after he joined them in 2008 from Al Ain. He scored nine goals during his six years at Al Jazira. He spent nine years at Al Ain where he made 203 appearances and scored 38 goals. The 34-year-old began his career in 1997 before breaking into the National team in 2000. Khater will don his favoured No.24 jersey which he has worn throughout his career.

Khater will reunite with Ivory Coast’s Boubacar Sanogo with whom he played at Al Ain. Sanogo joined Fujairah on a one-year deal with the striker moving from German Bundesliga second division club FC Energie Cottbus.

Sanogo who has also played for other German clubs FC Kaiserslautern Hamburg Werder Bremen and French side Saint-Etienne was instrumental in Al Ain winning the inaugural AFC Champions League in 2003. He finished as the UAE League’s top scorer that season.

“It is great to join Fujairah. I will be reuniting with Sanogo who played with me at Al Ain. I hope we can recreate the magic of 2003 when we won the AFC Champions League. I hope we can put Fujairah on the title path” Khater said.

After having earned promotion to the UAE top flight Fujairah have been quite busy in the transfer market to assemble a fighting squad. Fujairah have also signed former Al Ain midfielder Jorge Valdivia from Brazilian side Palmeiras. Valdivia was a member of the Chile squad at the recently concluded World Cup in Brazil.

Fujairah have also signed Ghana midfielder Charles Takyi. They have retained Lebanese midfielder Hassan Maatouk. Fujairah earned promotion to the UAE top flight after finishing second behind Ittihad Kalba in the UAE First Division.
