27 Iraqis killed in series of blasts in capital


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Twenty seven Iraqis were killed and 77 wounded in a series of bombings, most notably a suicide bomber at a checkpoint in the Kadhmiya city in northern Baghdad on Tuesday.

A security source in Baghdad told KUNA that "a car bomb driven by a suicide bomber exploded at a checkpoint at the entrance to Kadhmiya area near Baghdad Gate north of the capital, killing 22 Iraqis, including seven policemen and wounding 55 others." The source added that "security force cordoned off the scene while ambulances rushed to transport all casualties to a nearby hospital." In another incident, police said "a car bomb exploded in Al-Nahrawan area southeast of Baghdad, killing two civilians and wounding seven others." Meanwhile, three civilians were killed and 15 wounded after a mortar attack in Sabie Al-Bour, north of Baghdad.

Baghdad is witnessing almost continuous acts of attacks, mostly improvised car blasts as well as mortar fire, causing death and injury to dozens of citizens and security forces.
