Yemeni security foils post office robbery


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Security forces in Al-Mahweet were able to recover Riyals 36 million (USD 150,000) from an armed gang which stole it from the post office earlier in the day, the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.

The gunmen were using a car without number plates, intercepted the mail vehicle, carrying Riyals 36 million, and attempted to seize the sum, salaries of employees the local authority and the Education Directorate for the month of July, Police Director General of Al-Mahweet Brigadier Hussein Al-Qadhi said in a press statement.

Al-Qadhi added at gunpoint the robbery took place on the main road in Ma'kar Al-Toweela.

The official pointed out that security forces received a tip on the robbery and moved immediately, and was able to track the car and recollect the refund, however gang members managed to flee from the scene, and currently they were pursuit.
