More than 160,000 Omanis covered under post service pensions law


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) As many as 163,924 Omani government employees are covered under the Post Service Pensions and Bonuses Law at the end of June 2014, according to the bi-annual statistical report issued by the Civil Service Employees Pension Fund.

Of these, 4,771 employees are covered under the standardised system of insurance who are part of the administrative and public bodies governed by provisions of the GCC civil service retirement system. The report stated that the total number of retirees until the end of the first half of this year reached 40,999 and RO13.82mn was due to them as monthly pension. The total eligible heirs stood at 31,507 and the monthly pension due to them was RO3.29mn.

The total number of living retirees and eligible heirs in Muscat governorate constituted the highest with 11,450, whereas the least was in Al Wusta with 440. The report indicated that the end of service gratuity stood at 12,176 and the amount paid to them was RO40.93mn.

‘There was a decrease in the number of retirees in the first half of 2014, compared to the same period in 2013,' it stated.

The number of retirees at the end of June was 396 and their total monthly pensions stood at RO284,944 compared to 874 retirees in the same period last year with the total monthly pensions at RO484,991. The reasons for retirement varied, with 227 due to age, 44 due to death and 16 due to health issues and another 101 due to resignation.
