Japan Mongolia to Reach Economic Partnership Agreement

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Kyo July 22 (QNA) - Japan and Mongolia are expected to reach a broad agreement on a deal for economic cooperation.

Representatives from the two countries have been holding the latest round of talks for an Economic Partnership Agreement in Tokyo since Saturday.

Negotiations began in 2012.

The two sides agreed that Mongolia will scrap its 5% tariff on cars including secondhand ones. They also decided to fix rules to ensure that Mongolia provides stable supplies of rare metals and other minerals to Japan according to Japan's (NHK WORLD) website.

The Mongolians want Japan to significantly lower its 38.5% tariff on beef. The two countries are trying to reach an agreement to resume talks on the request after the EPA takes effect.

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj will meet on Tuesday to confirm the agreement.

Japan has concluded EPAs with 14 other nations. This would be the first such agreement for Mongolia. (QNA)
