S. Korea's mobile carriers spend USD5.01b for faster network

(MENAFN) A report said that South Korea's mobile carriers spend an average of USD5.01 billion every year since 2011 to develop faster mobile networks, Yonhap reported.

According to the report by DigiEco, a research arm of KT Corp, the high-digit investment have raised concerns that excessive competition may lower the profits of the carriers.

However, the three service providers' investment in mobile networks fell to USD4.44 billion in 2012 from the USD5.97 billion in the year before, but it is likely to increase in the near future.

"The problem is that local carriers use mobile network investments as a means to compete solely over who can provide higher speed," the report said.
