(MENAFN- The Peninsula) More than 80 Reach Out To Asia (Rota) volunteers and secondary grade students from Bangladesh M H M School gathered in the past week to renovate one of the oldest secondary schools in Qatar.
The project involved scraping the walls, painting, decorating and refurbishing six kindergarten classrooms with 180 chairs and 50 tables.
Rota is also working with Qatar Foundation's Facilities Management Directorate which is supporting the construction of a new covered playground area at the school.
The project is part of Rota's Eighth Ramadan initiative, 'Sharing Blessings'.
Sponsored by Occidental Petroleum Corporation (OXY) Qatar, the renovation of the school aims to provide engaging volunteering opportunities and raise awareness about volunteerism and community service.
"We are delighted to witness the successful renovation of the school by our volunteers. This Ramadan, our aim is to engage our volunteers to continue to give back and share their blessings with needy people in our community. After seeing the commitment of our volunteers to the project, I can say that they have made an impact and a change on students' lives," said Mohamed Al Saleh, National Program Director, Rota.
"This was an extraordinary team of volunteers. They were committed to the project from start to end," said Hazem Idriss, Volunteers Outreach Specialist.
"The team showed enthusiasm and bonded well with one another, they enjoyed every aspect of the project. It is great to see how much impact this experience had on volunteers and how their work made a difference on other people's lives. I'm proud to be part of this journey and I'm looking forward to seeing the final outcome of the school this week."

The project is an addition to Rota's Ramadan 2014 volunteer effort, which has over the years, engaged hundreds of volunteers. This year, the support is expected to reach over 1,000 people.
The Ramadan Project is sponsored by OXY Qatar for the third consecutive year.
This year, Rota volunteers will serve and support community partners, including Rumailah Hospital's Children's Rehabilitation Centre and Residential Care Compound, Hamad Hospital's Paediatric Leukaemia Unit, and Qatar Foundation for Elderly Care.
