(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY July 13 (KUNA): Kuwait's security and stability could have been jeopardized without the 'blessing and protection' of God then 'wisdom' of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah a senior government official said Saturday.
Deputy Premier Interior Minister and Acting Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Khaled Al-Hamad Al- Sabah was speaking at a dinner banquet for senior commanders and officers of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) on the occasion of Ramadan. He said recent demonstrations 'have been pre-planned' and the MoI has followed the rules of engagement. 'We have warned the demonstrators and followed the law in our actions' said Sheikh Mohammad. 'We will act strictly if the situation concerns the security of the nation.' Sheikh Mohammad said the MoI personnel were following directions and guidance of His Highness the Amir.
The MoI is backed by His Highness the Amir His Highness the Crown Prince and the Kuwaiti people he underlined. 'We as security forces have pledged to His Highness the Amir to implement justice and law ... we succeeded in confronting all those who want to undermine the security of Kuwait at the time people were spending their time in worshipping and reading the Holy Quran' in Ramadan said the minister. Sheikh Mohammad warned against false information posted on the social media network which was aimed at inciting discord and attacking the judicial authority. 'Kuwait is a state of institutions and freedom is guaranteed for all ....'
Meanwhile 'some lawmakers will soon approve rules and regulations for enforcing stiff penalties against people who participate in unauthorized public protests' reports Al- Shahed daily quoting some parliamentary sources as saying. The regulations include increasing the limit of bail bond depending on the levity of charges against the concerned people and other tough penalties.
The sources indicated that the lawmakers will present the bill to the National Assembly for implementation adding the lawmakers were convinced of the need for such laws after the recent unrest that was aimed at destabilizing the national security and during which the demonstrators vandalized public facilities. The protesters were also aiming to divert the focus of the security agencies from maintaining internal and external security against foreign aggression.
