(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Rlin July 18 (QNA) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called for a ceasefire needed in Ukraine to allow a rapid independent investigation into the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 yesterday.
"We need to start an independent investigation as quickly as possible. A ceasefire is needed for that and it's important that those responsible are brought to justice" she said at a news conference in Berlin.
"There are many indications that the plane was shot down so we have to take things very seriously." Merkel said the latest events had made it clear that apolitical solution needed to be found for Ukraine and called on Russia to work towards such a solution.
Of the 298 crash victims 174 were from The Netherlands. (QNA)
