S. Korea US Joint Naval Drill Begins Wednesday


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Oul July 16 (QNA) - South Korea and the United States launched Wednesday a six-day joint naval exercise in waters off Korea's southern and western coasts.



From South Korea two Aegis destroyers and some ten warships are taking part in the drill. From the US aircraft carrier USS George Washington and the associated fleet including an aegis destroyer belonging to the US Navy's 7th Fleet are participating in the exercise.



The drill will review the combined posture of the South Korean and the US navies and will cover the maneuvering of warships and communication and tracking for submarines according to Korea's (KBS WORLD) website.



For two days from Monday a joint South Korea-US-Japan naval search and rescue drill dubbed SAREX will be held in waters south of Jeju Island. (QNA)
