The presidential office said Park approved the appointment of Choi Kyung-hwan as finance minister Choi Yang-hee as science minister Lee Ki-kwon as labor minister Kim Hee-jung as gender equality minister and Lee Byung-kee as the director for the National Intelligence Service.

The approval for the appointments came after the reports for the five candidates’ confirmation hearings were adopted by the ruling and opposition parties.

The five new ministers will begin their duties on Wednesday.

However presidential spokesman Min Kyung-wook said the president has yet to approve appointments for Chung Sung-keun as culture minister and Chong Jong-sup as security and public administration minister.

The president on Tuesday requested the National Assembly adopt confirmation hearing reports for the two nominees.

Earlier on Tuesday the National Assembly’s Education Culture Sports and Tourism Committee convened a full session and discussed adopting a report on the results of a confirmation hearing for culture minister-nominee Chung Sung-keun.

However rival camps failed to narrow differences and the session was automatically adjourned when no agreements were reached past midnight. As a result sending Chung’s hearing report was automatically scrapped.

The National Assembly’s Security and Public Administration Committee also failed to forward a hearing report on Chong Jong-sup nominee for security minister as rival camps were at odds over adopting the report. (QNA)
