(MENAFNEditorial) Sharjah Media Centre's Ramadan Majlis held its 6th session at Expo Centre Sharjah last Monday, in the presence of Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Centre alongside directors of more than 20 Sharjah government departments and authorities as well as presenters of live broadcast programmes in the UAE.
Moderated by HE Mohamed Khalaf, Manager of Sharjah TV & Radio, the session was attended by presenter Abdullah Bin Khusaif (Abu Rashid) from Ajman Radio, presenter Rashid Al Kharji from Noor Dubai Radio, and Mohammed Ghanim Mustafa, Director General of Ras Al Khaimah Radio.
Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Centre, praised the role played by live broadcast programmes in enhancing communication between the government and the people and finding appropriate solutions to various issues. He added that the programmes have gained increasing popularity in recent years, due to their credibility and the judicious use of social media sites as platforms to reach a greater audience.
The session was attended by HE Khamis Bin Salim Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Department of Public suburbs and villages, HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, Chairman, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, HE Ali Salem Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah International Airport Authority and HE Hana Saif Al Suwaidi Chairperson of Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority.
The session was also attended by HE Sultan bin Butti Al Muhairi, Secretary General of the Sharjah Executive Council, HE Riad Abdullah Eilan as Director-General of Sharjah Municipality, HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Director General, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, HE Hussein Al Mahmoudi, Director General of Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Khalid Omar Al Midfa, Director General of SMC, HE Osama Samra, Director of Sharjah Media Centre, Eng Khalid Bin Butti Al Muhairi, Director of the Department of Planning and Survey in Sharjah, His Excellency Khalifa Al Shaibani, General Manager of 'Wekaya', HE Hisham Al Madhloum, Director of Art Directorate at the Department of Culture and Information in Sharjah, Aisha Saif, Secretary General of Sharjah Education Council, and Dr Jasim Khalfan, a national activist, in addition to a large number of senior officials from various government departments and entities, as well as cultural and media figures.
HE Osama Samra said that the session has provided a unique platform for direct discussion between presenters and officials, which perfectly fits Sharjah's endeavour to build an integrated structure for government communication, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. He added that these programmes not only solve problems, but also help to support communities through donation and awareness campaigns.
HE Mohammed Khalaf welcomed the attendees and said that the goal of the session was to hear the opinion of government officials on live broadcast programmes and their views on how to boost outreach. He expressed his appreciation for SMC's initiative in organising this Ramadan session which brought presenters together with their audience, enabling them to share suggestions and feedback.
Khalaf said that live broadcast programmes are similar to the complaints and suggestions box placed at government department, adding that although the former is live, but both tools aim to solve problems.
Media personality Rashid Al Kharji detailed the various live broadcast programmes presented in the UAE, saying that the oldest one was broadcast in October 1983 through Dubai Radio – presenting Dubai International Airport traffic reports.
He added that the telephone conversation of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, with a live broadcast programme recently has inspired many government officials and directors to do the same, thereby making communication with officials easier and faster.
Presenter Abdullah bin Khusaif said that the live broadcast program is a tool to measure the people's satisfaction, a fact that adds value and popularity to such programmes. This was apparent with the participation of government officials interacting with people's comments and feedback.
Mohammed Ghanim said that live broadcast programmes are platform for transparent and honest discussion of issues. He added that many Arab and foreign countries have replicated the UAE's success and launched similar programmes on their stations. He urged his colleagues to make sure of the information they receive, to be unbiased to any party, and to maintain credibility.
The closing session of Sharjah Media Centre's Ramadan Majlis will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, under the title 'The Freej Dialogue' session. Moderated by Abdul Aziz Al Musallam, Director of Heritage and Cultural Affairs at the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information, the session will host Dr Fatima Al Saegh, professor of History at the United Arab Emirates University; Dr Hamad bin Sarai, professor of Old History at the United Arab Emirates University; Nasser Al Kass, head of Ibn Majed Folklore Association in Ras Al Khaimah; and Hassan Ibrahim Al Fardan, Chairman of Al Fardan Group and a renowned pearl expert.
