(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The British government announced Tuesday the arrival of 200-ton shipment of Syrian chemicals ahead of destroying them in various specialized laboratories around the world.
A Denmark's ship started offloading the first containers from chemical weapons in southern England, under supervision of members from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), a spokesman for the Prime Minister said in a statement.
British experts are preparing to transfer the substances into specialized industrial labs, before destroying them.
The spokesman added that his country agreed to receive 150 tons from the Syrian chemicals, in addition to 50 tons of other chemical substance.
Syria finished handing over its 1,300 tons of chemical stockpiles in June in an effort to avoid US airstrikes after a chemical attack on a rebel-held suburb near Damascus was believed to have killed more than 1,000 people.
