Egyptian FM discusses Gaza truce plan with Greek counterpart

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri discussed the ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza and his country's ceasefire initiative for it with his Greek counterpart Evangelos Venizelos, the foreign ministry said Tuesday.

During the call initiated by Venizelos, Shukri provided details of the initiative, in addition to outcomes of the emergency meeting for Arab foreign ministers that concluded in Cairo last night, ministry spokesman Bader Abdulaati said in a press release.

"The Greek minister expressed his country's welcoming and support of the Egyptian cease-fire initiative," he said.

The initiative proposes a full cease-fire to come into effect 12 hours after the start of "de-escalation", which should be followed within 48 hours by separate talks between the two parties and neutral mediators on terms for an agreement.
