(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Team Oman Sail managed to cling to third place at the end of races on the Atlantic coast of France in the Tour de France a la Voile (TDV) on Monday.
After the completion of the first half of the event that comprised a total of 16 offshore and inshore races, France's Courrier Dunkerque 3 leads the overall standings with 574 points and is followed by French team Groupama 34 with 555 points.
Team Oman Sail, skippered by Sidney Gavignet, is involved in a keen tussle for the third spot with Bretagne-Crédit Mutuel Elite and leads the latter by just five points with 538.
The nine-boat fleet concluded the halfway stage in Roscoff on Monday with Bretagne-Crédit Mutuel Elite winning the coastal race, the only contest of the day, after the race committee decided to cancel the inshore races for lack of winds. Courrier Dunkerque 3 came second and Nantes-Saint Nazaire finished third. Team Oman Sail ended up at fifth place.
The M34 boats were lifted out of the water on Monday night and will delivered by truck to Roses in Spain, where they will start racing on July 18. On Sunday, Team Oman Sail had a third and second place in the two inshore races held in Roscoff.
Speaking after the two podium finishes, Gavignet said, ''We finished third and second with a majority of Omani crew onboard, which is great because it is the aim of our campaign to take as many Omani sailors as we can on the boat. We are relaxed and I think that's key to our success as we managed to gain a few more points over the two leaders.''
