Qatar has highest portion of M&A activity in MENA


(MENAFN) Thomson Reuters reported that overseas acquisitions of Qatar totaled 46 percent of Middle Eastern mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity in the first six months of the current year, according to the Peninsula Qatar.

The largest deal during the first half of 2014 was Labregah Real Estate Company's purchase at USD2.5 billion stake in Barwa Commercial Avenue Co.

Reuters also reported that the country's real estate was the most targeted sector, accounting 29 percent of first half activity.

Nadim Najjar (pictured), Managing Director, Middle East and North Africa, Thomson Reuters said: "Middle Eastern equity and equity-related issuance during the first half of 2014 totaled USD2.9 billion, a 6 percent increase in activity from the corresponding period in 2013 (USD2.8 billion). Middle Eastern debt issuance reached USD18 billion during the second quarter of 2014, the all-time highest quarterly total recorded in the region."
