A large crowd of attendees watched the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil final between Germany and Argentina on three giant screens at the venue, applauding as Germany became the first European side to win the World Cup on South American soil with a dramatic late goal by Mario Goetze in the extra time.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi said that football evening formed part of SMC's eagerness to enhance communication with representatives of local, regional, and international media, as the FIFA World Cup is the world's largest sporting event, attracting a diverse audience from different age groups. He added that the Centre seeks to serve as a focal point for journalists where they gather to exchange experiences and learn about the achievements made by Sharjah in different fields, in addition to facilitating communication on the level of the regional media community and delivering an unbiased picture of the emirate of Sharjah.

Osama Samra was happy with the media community's interaction with the activities organised by Sharjah Media Centre, including the International Government Communication Forum and the Ramadan Majlis being organised at Expo Centre Sharjah. He added that media representatives have been able to watch all FIFA World Cup matches at the Centre's headquarters with the aim to keep journalists entertained, increase communication among them, and encourage them to visit the Centre and benefit from its various media facilities.

Fans were excited throughout the 120 minutes, cheering the performance of goalkeepers and interacting with many scoring opportunities from Germany and Argentina's stars, until the goal was scored few minutes before the final whistle. German triumph was celebrated by the crowds inside the Expo Centre, most of whom were cheering for the German team. The FIFA World Cup concluded on a high note after a string of surprises.

At the end of the evening, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi presented prizes to journalists who participated in Final Match Prediction Competitions and Play Station Contest, organised by Sharjah Media Centre on the occasion of Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup. Three valuable prizes were distributed to winners in each competition.
