UAE- Mother abandoned by her four children at airport

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The 75-year-old Arab woman tells police that her youngest son had brought her to the airport and left her in the departure hall.

The General Department of Human Rights of the Dubai Police assisted an elderly woman left stranded at the airport by her four children who are UAE residents. The department ordered the woman’s four children to take care of her and purchase a return ticket for her.

The Dubai Police received information late on Sunday night about a 75-year-old Arab woman who was by herself at the airport and crying. When the police approached her she told them that her youngest son had brought her to the airport and left her in the departure hall.

“He did not give me an air ticket to go home and told me he would come back soon but he didn’t” she told the police.

She told the police about her four children who are well-settled in the UAE and have good jobs. “They just don’t want to take care of me.”

Major Shaheen Al Mazmi Director of Women and Child Protection at the department said the Dubai Police coordinated with the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children to take care of the woman and to provide her with accommodation. The next day the police managed to get in touch with her children. Her eldest son went to the police and apologised for what his youngest brother did.

The woman told the police that she did not want to live with her children and that she wanted to go back to her relatives in her country following which the police directed her children to get her a return air ticket.
