German FM seeks to calm down situation in Gaza

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Visiting German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said he will travel on to Israel and Palestine to discuss with officials there how to calm down the deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip, Jordan's official news agency, PETRA reported.

While meeting with Jordan's Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour here, Steinmeier said that his country was interested in the humanitarian situation of Syrian refugees, according to a royal statement.

The current events in several Middle East countries have had reflections and impacts on the rest of the region's countries, including Jordan, Ensour said, adding that without a just solution to the Palestinian issue, there would be no stability in the region.

He pointed out Germany could play a key role in calming the situation in Gaza.

Israel has been launching air strikes on the Gaza strip. At least 170 people have been killed and many others injured.
