Jordan, Germany FMs agree direct negotiations only way to end Gaza violence

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier agreed Monday that direct negotiations are the only solution to end violence in Gaza.

In a joint press conference, Judeh said the only solution to the Palestinian issue is to return to direct negotiations leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital as part of a two-state solution which would ensure security and peace to the peoples of the region.

The German minister described Jordan as an "oasis of safety and stability" in a troubled region, and commended the Kingdom for receiving large numbers of refugees from its troubled neighbors.

The German minister said that Jordan deserves solidarity, respect and support in light of the massive pressures it has been going through as a result of hosting a massive inflow of Syrian refugees on its territory.

On developments in Gaza, Steinmeier expressed regret for "the fall of so many innocent people," and stressed the need to stop the attacks, saying there is no substitute for negotiations and the two-state solution.

The two ministers also discussed the Palestinian issue, Judeh said the developments in the occupied Palestinian territories are very serious and demanded Israel to stop its escalation of the situation and return to the negotiations table.

The two sides also discussed Jordanian-German ties and the latest developments in the region, especially the situation in Iraq, Syria and the Palestinian territories.

While discussing the Palestinian issue, Judeh said the developments in the occupied Palestinian territories are very serious and demanded Israel to stop its escalation of the situation and return to the negotiations table.

The top diplomats also tackled the crisis in Syria and the massive burdens being borne by Jordan as a result of hosting a large number of Syrian refugees on its territory and providing them with all services they need despite pressures they add on an already-strained infrastructure and economy.

On Iraq, Judeh renewed Jordan's support for all efforts aimed at safeguarding Iraq's territorial integrity and the unity of its people, stressing the need for resolving the crisis through an all-encompassing political process inclusive of all components of the Iraqi people.
