Britain ready to provide more aid to Palestinian authority


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) British Foreign Secretary William Hague expressed Monday his country's readiness to provide more humanitarian aid to the Palestinian national authority and help contribute to easing the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip.

Hague made his remarks during a session in the House of Commons on the UK response to the Gaza crisis and the need for a ceasefire.

Hague said International Development Minister Alan Duncan spoke earlier with Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, and expressed readiness to dispatch more aid to the Palestinian people.

Britain is providing 349 million pounds for humanitarian relief, state-building and economic development for Palestinians up to 2015, and providing around 30 million pounds a year to help the people of Gaza.

On another front, Hague expressed concerns over developments between Hamas and Israel, stressing those developments in the region has never been so grave to security in decades.

The Secretary noted that his country is exerted efforts with all of its allies to reach ceasefire and push for the two sides to return to the negotiation table and establish a two-state solution that would guarantee permanent security for both.

Hague also warned against the continuous of such situation and future confrontations that already been witnessed three times since the past six years, which resulted in killing many civilians.

The secretary called on the two sides to end violence and stressed importance on ending Israeli illegal settlement building which hinders negotiations and attempts to achieve peace.

The British official also called on Hamas to enter negotiations and stop rocket firing, affirming on the right to Israelis and Palestinians to live without fear and constant threats.
