Well, go tell that to the women whose husbands sat glued to television sets or were out with friends late watching matches. They will tell you what the month-long tournament was - a distraction, an excuse, sleepless nights....
''Frustrating!'' That's the word Fatmah al Naamani, a home maker uses to describe the matches. Her husband watched all the matches at home, which meant Fatmah was surely not getting much attention.
''It's (World Cup) finally over and I am happy! During the matches, I felt like an invisible person flitting around the house with nobody noticing. Now I will have his attention back and won't be hearing the noise of football,'' Fatmah said.
The tournament was also an excuse for husbands to stay out till late with friends. ''I am relieved now. My husband will not stay out till late like during the tournament when he would say catching up on football action with friends was more fun,'' said Samya Maulid, another home maker, who is not a football fan.
''He would be back home very late. His nights out were affecting me. I couldn't get enough sleep waiting for him, neither could I be out with him. I used to be so worried,'' said Samya.
Some wives saw the matches as a waste of time and a distraction during Ramadan, when the mind has to be pulled away from all worldly things and be more focused on prayers.
''Night prayers are very important during Ramadan, but
the matches were a distraction,'' according to Farida Shain, a mother of four.
''It would be a task dragging my husband for more prayers. I am happy that the World Cup is over. No more matches means more time devoted to prayers, especially during the last few days of Ramadan,'' she added, calling her better half's behaviour ‘j
