Japan's industrial production edges up in May

(MENAFN) According to data released, Japan's industrial production accelerated its pace of growth slightly during May, as the Industrial Production Index figures picked up, QNA reported.

However, Industrial production was less strong over the year, with a growth rate of 1.0 percent in May, while shipments fell 1.0 percent in May over April and inventories rose 3.0 percent over the month.

Rising production, inventories and the inventory ratio provide support for the overall performance of Japan's economy, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in Tokyo said.

Data from Japan's Cabinet Office showed that Japan's gross domestic product (GDP) growth rose to 1.6 percent in the first quarter.
