Pope urges stop of hostilities between Israel, Palestinians

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Pope Francis on Sunday urged the "parties" and the international community to stop the "hostilities" between Israel and the Palestinians, calling for giving priority to dialogue and reconciliation.

The Pope was speaking to pilgrims in St. Peter's Square, when he called for not sparing "any effort to stop every hostility and to follow the path of peace, which is so desired for the good of all".

Francis led tens of thousands today in a prayer asking God "to listen to the cry of our people to transform our weapons into instruments of peace, our fears into trust and our tensions into forgiveness".

Referring to the meeting he hosted last month between Israel's President Shimon Peres and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the Vatican, the Pope asked the world to pray so that the two leaders would not have met in vain.

He also stressed the necessity of giving priority to "dialogue and reconciliation" over "hatred and violence".
