Germany wins World Cup for four times

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Germany was crowned champion of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil after beating rival Argentina 1-0 in second extra time through Mario Gotze.

The sole goal came in the 113th minute of the match, which went on goalless, yet fiery, from both teams. This is Germany's fourth World Cup title; after 1954, 1974 and 1990.

An estimated one billion TV viwers all over the world, in addition to some 75,000 at Rio de Janeiro's Estadio Maracana, saw Germany and Argentina go head-to-head throughout the match, but Gotze's brilliant finish gave the Mannschaft the upper hand, and subsequently the title.

Should they have won the match, this would have been Argentina's third title, after 1978 and 1986.

The next World Cup, the 21st version, will be held in Russia in 2018.
