Team Oman Sail stays in third spot

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Team Oman Sail finished third in the third offshore leg of the 2014 Tour de France a la Voile (TDV) from Granville to Roscoff in France on Sunday.

Groupama 34 crossed the finish line first, after a day of tough manoeuvreing battles among the rocks, and incredibly close racing with Courrier Dunkerque 3, which finished second.

Despite the second-place finish, Courrier Dunkerque, led by Daniel Souben, is still at the top of the leaderboard, even though its lead has shrunk by a few points. Team Oman Sail had a good day out under Sidney Gavignet.

It raced against Bretagne-Credit Mutuel Elite for a long time to finally escape a few boat lengths ahead and climbed from its overnight's fourth place to third.

Damien Iehl, Team Oman Sail's helmsman, said, ''Towards the end, we really sailed among the rocks. It was amazing. We had a great time. We finish third, not far from the first two boats. We did a lot of tacking (manoeuvreing). It was very interesting. We had a great fight with Bretagne- Credit Mutuel Elite for a while. We managed to separate from them and to leave them behind, which we're pretty happy about, since we are in their home seas in North Brittany. Courrier Dunkerque and Groupama were further ahead, but we managed to catch up with them at some stage, although we couldn't pass them. The atmosphere onboard has been very good, we were relaxed and focussed at the same time.''

Results (after 13 races): 1 Courrier Dunkerque 3 (502 pts), 2 Groupama 34 (488), 3 Team Oman Sail (470), 4 Bretagne- Credit Mutuel Elite (468), 5 Ville De Geneve-Carrefour Addictions (437), 6 Normandy-Acerel (431), 7 Toulon Provence Mediterranee- Coych (417), 8 Nantes Saint Nazaire (389), 9 Be Brussels Bienne Voile (364).
