Fans of Latin American football in Oman have their fingers crossed


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Football is such a game that loyalties can be deeply divided, and sometimes assume divine proportions. Separating fans of Latin American and European teams is a thick red line.

A group Latin American football fans in Muscat had been fervently praying for Argentina and Brazil to clash for the Cup.

''On the day of Argentina's semifinal with the Netherlands we had offered prayers at Ruwi church for the Latin American side. We all support Latin American football against the European way of playing it. In Latin America, the game is played with such passion,'' said Golbin George, an Indian expat from the group who represented his state team during his college days. ''We can relate with their way of playing, which is similar to how we played the game,'' he said.

Sadly for the group, the final won't be all Latin American. ''We are hugely disappointed at Brazil's unceremonious exit.''

A member of the group said their plans for a bigger prayer meet for Brazil before its semifinal did not materialise because of some reasons outside their control.

''We were hoping for Brazil vs Argentina – a clash of the titans in the real sense,'' said group member, Patrose A. ''Neymar would have tipped the scales against Germany,'' said another.

Another prayer meet was held for the second semifinal, seeking divine providence for Argentina. ''Our prayers were answered. We are sure Messi & Co will deliver in the finals. We will be praying even harder for Argentina to win the World Cup for a third time,'' said Saju B and John, other excited members who have their fingers crossed and a prayer on th
