Egypt pres. meets Blair
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Egyptian President Abdelfatah Al-Sisi met former British Prime Minister and Middle East Peace Quartet Envoy Tony Blair here on Saturday on the current situation in the Gaza Strip.
During the meeting, they discussed the recent Israeli escalation in the Palestinian territory, Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency Ambassador Ihab Badawi said in a news statement.
The Egyptian president pointed to ongoing Egyptian efforts in this regard on both political and humanitarian levels in order to reach a ceasefire between Israelis and Palestinians, he said.
He also reiterated his country's support and solidarity with the Palestinian people, and its keenness on contributing to the fulfillment of humanitarian needs to them, he added.
On his part, Blair said the current escalation would not be in the interest of anyone and would only lead to more civilian victims, Badawi pointed out.
Blair also called on both sides to exercise self-restraint and to respond to all sincere efforts aiming to reach a mutual truce, he added.
