Yemeni Pres. sacks military top brass


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Two days after the Houthi militants took over Imran Governorate, north Yemen and 90 km away from the capital city of Sanaa, President Abdo Rabbu Mansour Hadi decided to replace a number of military leaders.

Commander of the first military area Maj.-Gen. Ahmad Abdullah Al-Somali was replaced by Maj.-Gen. Abdulrahman Al-Halili, former commander of the 27th Brigade which is based in Hadramowt Governorate.

Commander of the seventh military area Maj.-Gen. Mohammad Ali Al-Maqdeshi was replaced by Maj.-Gen. Mohammad Yahya AL-Hawi.

Under the presidential decree, leaders of several brigades were also reshuffled including the commanders of 26th Mechanized Brigade, the 62nd Mechanized Brigade, the Missile Brigades, and the 37th Armored Brigade.

The reshuffling is part of the restructuring process of the army, envisaged in the GCC initiative and forced by the growing activities of militants in the northern governorates.
